In this article, scientists have demonstrated the ability to manipulate the building blocks of life in two separate studies. One altered DNA and the other edited RNA. DNA short for deoxyribonucleic acid is the main component of any living things and is present in chromosomes. RNA short for ribonucleic acid acts as the messenger that carries instructions to our DNA for the synthesis of proteins. In study 1, they altered the atoms in DNA to rewrite the human genetic code and instructions for life. The four bases that build up DNA is adenine, cytosine, guanine and thymine. They were able to alter the molecular structure of one base and covert it into another, this shows the progression towards genetic engineering. In study 2, they edited RNA which unlocked the information in the genetic code. They used their techniques with RNA to correct a form of anaemia in human cells. By doing this they are able to treat many diseases in almost any kind of cell. I believe that we should continue this genetic engineering, we should continue the research and development if it helps to cure life threatening diseases and if it can lead to a longer life span.
I completely agree with your viewpoint on this subject. Human race has been able to make amazing advances with DNA altering and it has been over decades of work. In these cases we are not using our technology for inhumane reasons. This is not about rigging our genetics to do some type of supernatural experiments, this is about taking our technological advances and applying them while following ethical recommendations. The only reason of genetic engineering is to cure diseases in people who were less fortunate to obtain them.
