Brexit: Minister resigns over Theresa May's 'naive' deal - Brandon McCabe - 12-01-2018

This article talks about the United Kingdom pulling out of the Galileo project they had been apart of. This project was started by the EU and is essentially a network of satellites orbiting earth that gives people access to the USA´s GPS such as citizens, army and government. This move comes about due to Britain voting to separate from the UK, this is called Brexit.

Why is this so important? The UK along with other European countries put in about 1.4 billion Euros into this project to put these satellites into orbit, and with them separating they will no longer have access to these which will cause them to lose lots of important intel. Only the countries that have remained in the EU will be able to access these satellites. Britain has begun putting money into sending their own satellites that will act as their own Galileo type satellites. Britain wants it their way, and they will do anything to get it.

Conflict has been stirred as well because of this as one of Theresa Mays ministers over this decision she made regarding the Galileo project. Many people believe this will hurt Britain greatly in the long run, while the government is remaining confident that their plan will pan out positively.

In conclusion, it is important that we have efforts that enable people to access data like the Galileo satellites did. Now that Britain is no longer apart of this, they will no longer have the data these satellites give. Sure, they said they were putting money in for new satellites that are British owned, but who knows if they will actually carry it out. For all we know, it could just be the typical banter some governments say to keep us people quiet. We must always take every opportunity to gain as much data as possible for every aspect of our society.
