End to a million plastic sneakers, essentially flips flops are among the torrent of particles washed up on an “unspoiled paradise” within the Indian ocean. There is no doubt, plastic pollution is one of the biggest threats to our ocean, as about millions of tons of plastic entering the ocean each year. Some of the worst ocean plastic offenders are single-use plastics (bags, cutlery, wrap, cups, straws, bottle. Scientists estimated that the seahorses of Australia’s Cocos (Keeling) Islands are strewn with spherical 414 million pieces of plastic pollution. They mediate some 93% of it lies buried below the sand. They are fervent that the size of hid plastic particles is being underestimated worldwide. Almost half the plastic manufactured for the reason that product became developed six decades within the past has been made within the previous 13 years. Via failings in ruin management, mighty of it has ended up within the oceans, with the estimate suggesting that for the time being are extra pieces of plastic within the sea than the fishes that are in oceans. The world loves flip flops, they are comfortable, cheap and don’t fall apart in the weather. However, that’s also a big part of the problem, when they are discarded they don’t go away. They stay forever in landfills or make their way into the ocean. Many of the older and cheaper ones are made of non-recyclable plastics, that contain, polyvinyl, cadmium and lead, everything together makes these sandals carcinogenic to humans and toxic to animals and plants. So, a lot of these plastic compounds cannot be incinerated because of health concerns. But they can still be recycled. The problem of flip flops littering beaches is not just aesthetic, but a health hazard to human and marine life, fishes and the sea water as well as on how it will be recycled. Plastic degrades into billions of tiny pieces of plastic, called micro plastic that enters the food chain. Microplastics have been found in plankton, turtles, birds, and whales and are being ingested by us in the seafood we eat. What can make things worse is that microplastics can absorb toxic chemicals found in the surrounding water, like pesticides and heavy metals. The good news is that new manufactures of flip flops have guidelines that new sandals are recyclable. Some companies in some countries make shoes that are 100% recyclable and some that are made from 100% recycled plastic.
