On Friday, May 24th, Elon Musk and SpaceX launched a Falcon-9 rocket accompanied with 60 satellites capable of providing high speed internet to us down here on Earth. This is the first of many planned launches from SpaceX, as their goal is to ultimately send around twelve-thousand satellites in orbit. To get a better perspective on how ambitious this task is, there are currently two-thousand satellites that are in orbit and Elon wants to increase that number by more than six times. Now this might start to raise a few concerns among many of us. Some of those concerns may be: "will there be too many satellites and debris in orbit now?" or "what happens when one of the satellites falls down to Earth?". SpaceX has stated that their new satellites have the built in ability to track orbital debris and autonomously avoid it. SpaceX has also said that their satellites are made out of material that rapidly burns up while falling back down to Earth on re-entry. I believe that if this ambitious goal put forward by SpaceX takes off we will begin to see many more companies begin to do this, as well as see a new improvement in the speed and world-wide availability in internet.
