Fossils Found Under the Chicxulub Asteriod Impact
#1

As many of us already know, it was the asteroid that struck the Yucatan Peninsula 65 million years ago that caused the extinction of several species that roamed the Earth. However, scientists have only been able to base the collision theory on the large amounts of iridium- an asteroids "fingerprint", spread out throughout the time period. It wasn't until now that scientists have actually found a "deathbed" where fish are found with impact related debris inside their gills, as well as the debris trapped in amber all in this place called Tanis, North Dakota.
What I really find fascinating about this discovery is how after almost 66 million years, scientists are able to find actual debris from the asteroid impact embedded in fossilized fish gills. What is also very fascinating is that the geologists and other scientists working in this area were able to say with such accuracy that all these events probably occurred ten minutes to a couple of hours after the impact! It is also extremely frightening to think that an asteroid 12 km across, struck the Earth, caused a massive seiche wave which would of picked everything up in its path, all to then cause the extinction of the majority of Earth's species.
